YOUTH GUARANTEE
Forestry - North King Country/South Waikato
Tutor: Roger Haupokia
This programme is designed for new entrants into the forest (silviculture) industry at a starting level
for Forestry Workers and Learner Foresters. Participants will gain credits toward the NZ Certificate
in Forestry Industry Foundation Skills as well as being prepared for employment. All training is done in
field conditions with the tutor, who is a Registered Industry Assessor. Work assignment opportunities
with contractors add to the value of the programme.
Agriculture - North King Country/South Waikato
Tutor: Daniel Pihama
The training is designed for those wanting to enter the industry at an entry level and provides formal
qualifications for the farming industry. The programme provides special benefits for Learners in preparing
them for directly employment. All essential skills will be applied in practical farming situations with one
day a week in classroom sessions to complete written assignments.
Young Mothers - Te Kuiti
Tutor: Leah Wallace
This programme provides the opportunity for teenage mums to continue their educational pathway during
pregnancy and the early years of motherhood with a supportive group of young mums. The qualification
is the NZ Certificate in Foundation Skills and provides a good foundation for further study.
New Horizons - Te Kuiti
Tutor: Nika Wallace
This programme will provide the opportunity for Learners to gain essential skills and training for employment.
Credits can be gained towards the NZ Certificate in Foundation Skills and an introduction to Te Reo Maori.
Training will include workplace learning, outdoor experiences as well as general communication activities.
Agriculture - Waitomo
Tutor: Beau Edwards
The training is designed for those wanting to enter the industry at the starting level as farm general hands.
Learner fencers, shearers and junior shepherds. Credits towards the NZ Certificate in Primary Industry Skills can
be gained. Hands on experience in a real workplace is a major feature of the programme.

This programme is designed for new entrants into the forest (silviculture) industry at a starting level for forestry
workers and Learner foresters. Participants will gain credits toward the NZ Certificate in Forestry Industry
Foundation Skills as well as being prepared for employment. All training is done in field conditions with the tutor
who is a Registered Assessor. Work experience opportunities with contractors add to the value of the programme.
